Adventures in Action

The Hunger Action Heroes Unite! comic book and curriculum bring learning to life. Designed for upper elementary and middle school students, these resources combine storytelling with hands-on projects, aligning with national standards.

  • Understanding hunger’s impact on the body (Health)
  • Exploring the impact of food waste on the environment (Science)
  • Building empowerment and leadership skills (English Language Arts)
  • Practicing empathy to reduce stigma around food assistance (Social Emotional Learning)

By following the adventures of Hunger Halter and Demeter, children discover that helping others is exciting, rewarding, and empowering.

MEET THE HEROES

Hunger Halter has a special gift. He can sense when food is about to be wasted. With this power, he rescues food and delivers it to families, shelters, and neighbors in need. His mission is simple but powerful: stop waste and feed people.

Demeter was named after the Greek goddess of harvest. She is strong, kind, and open minded. She teaches children that empathy, compassion, and action are the qualities that make a true hero.

Together, Hunger Halter and Demeter show that anyone can make a difference. Even small actions such as rescuing one meal, donating one item, or educating one friend can create a greater impact than many imagine.

WHY IT MATTERS!

The Face of Hunger Could be Anyone's

Hunger affects people of all ages and backgrounds. It touches children, families, seniors, college students, military families, veterans, and people you meet every day. Stories like
Ms. Lonnecker's, Lisa’s, and Mark's remind us that food assistance is not charity. It is community support.
